Special Compliance and Issue Management Research Project

Challenge:

Our client – a national trade association - operates within a highly regulated industry. State and Local laws govern equipment specifications, safety and ongoing maintenance. The hundreds of state and local regulatory entities (Authorities Having Jurisdiction or AHJ’s) that set the rules for this industry adopt new rules throughout the year – some of which take effect immediately. In addition, State Legislatures enact laws that impact the industry. Therefore, the regulatory landscape is changing constantly.

A Model Code endorsed by the industry was being considered at the State level, but the client did not have the ability to compare adopted Codes to the provisions of the Model Code. This impeded compliance and failed to highlight Model Code provisions that remains unadopted. That made planning for advocacy more difficult.

Stateside Solution

In order to support compliance with state and local laws across the nation, our client turned to Stateside to create and maintain an online database of current laws and regulations as they compare to the Model Code. The database also features key membership information about all AHJs.

Stateside created a robust, custom designed online portal containing all the information for the client, including special functionality that allows the user to see easily which provisions match the Model Code and which do not. The Stateside Regulatory Team updates the information on an ongoing basis.
