Marie R. Divine is a Legislative Associate on the Health Care and Insurance team. Marie is a Kansas native who has gained bipartisan experience at the state and federal level. She worked as a legislative aid for Representative Jan H. Kessinger in the Kansas Legislature in 2018. Marie later worked for Congressman Kevin Yoder in the United States House of Representatives. After moving to Virginia, Marie worked on the Virginia Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign, primarily for Senator Tim Kaine, Congressman Donald McEachin, and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger. In the 2019 Virginia General Assembly, she worked for Progress Virginia on the “Eyes on Richmond” award-winning government transparency project. Marie later worked in the Virginia executive branch as the Virginia Council on Women aide to the Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth, Traci J. DeShazor. She worked as a research assistant for the Educational Foundation at the Women’s National Democratic Club (WNDC) and now serves as the WNDC’s External Affairs Chair on the Young Dems Committee. Marie is an avid writer and speaker who gave a Ted Talk in 2016 on reforming education and advancing gender equality in Kansas City, Missouri. Marie graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science and a minor in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. When she isn’t chatting about politics, she loves trying new coffee shops, performing spoken word, and traveling across the globe.
