ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a full-time, creative, and forward-thinking Marketing and Communications Director. This position is responsible for developing and guiding firm-wide marketing and communications strategies for the industry leader in state and local government relations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, identifying timely public policy issues and drafting corresponding content including blogs and social media posts, pitching and implementing marketing campaigns, developing a strong and coherent branding strategy, drafting marketing collateral, and conducting regular benchmarking. In this position, you will work closely with senior firm leadership to drive ambitious business development goals by creating long-term, visionary marketing plans while simultaneously performing the day-to-day work of promoting our comprehensive suite of government affairs services, building brand awareness, and identifying thought leadership opportunities on timely state and local policy issues.  

You must have excellent writing and visual presentation skills and be able to create consistent, meaningful content on all our social media platforms, which includes timely blogs. Experience working with state and/or local policy issues is preferable.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of a distinctive and consistent brand voice and style guide to govern all external Firm communications.
  • Oversee and manage Stateside’s communications initiatives including working with the Senior Leadership team to develop and draft content for the Firm’s blog and client newsletters.
  • Identify, write, and publish engaging policy and marketing content regarding state and local government affairs including timely blogs and various social media posts.
  • Write, edit and proofread marketing materials, emails, website copy and other marketing department projects as necessary.
  • Create appealing images consistent with branding themes to complement marketing materials and social media posts.
  • Create and maintain social media marketing plans that support business development initiatives.
  • Evaluate and monitor the most relevant/effective social media channels, i.e.: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of all client/prospect mailing lists.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to write policy blogs and record podcasts on priority topics.
  • Oversee SEO vendor and track and report on social media insights.
  • Apply advertising techniques to boost brand awareness and thought leadership.
  • Establish relationships with online communities by identifying key partner organizations, news outlets, and policy organizations that fit our strategy and brand.
  • Establish a consistent voice across cross-functional departments and contributors.
  • Manage website content and ongoing website maintenance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Marketing, Communications, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 4 to 6 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or political campaigns is required.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand nuances of clients with differing interests.
  • Strong understanding of state and local government policy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience across key social media sites.
  • Experience creating marketing visuals.
  • Proficiency in one or more social media listening platforms.
  • Experience using web analytics and creating reports.
  • Ability to work in self-directed, fast-paced environment.
  • Highly proficient computer skills.
