Issue Management: More Than Just Consulting
The intersection of government and business creates opportunities and threats that may not always be clearly visible.
Framing those possibilities with skill and effectiveness is “Issue Management” – the art and science of influencing public policy. Clients retain Stateside for help in building, managing and sustaining effective state and local government affairs programs. Stateside’s approach is to be knowledgeable about its clients and issues, as well as hands-on and creative.
Stateside recognizes the considerable challenges of simultaneously managing legislative and regulatory issues in multiple jurisdictions – whether those jurisdictions are at the state or local level of government. We have the professional bench strength, experience, process expertise and access to relationships – both public officials and the private sector advocates – to do that.
Stateside Issue Managers are government affairs practitioners. We work closely alongside our clients, regularly coordinating their advocacy efforts and issue campaigns; managing programs and coalitions; engaging the State and Local Officials Groups and developing relationship-building and brand-raising plans; and identifying, retaining and managing the lobbyists and other professionals who walk the halls of the state capitols.
Stateside Issue Management Services include:
Led State Regulation and Licensing Initiative for Health Care Client
Passed Legislation to Correct Antiquated Restrictions on Marketing of “Out of State” Homes
Supporting Outreach Efforts to Native American Communities
While the outreach efforts are ongoing, due to Stateside’s work, many strained relationships with specific leaders have been bridged, tensions over high profile issues in two states have been reduced, additional communication channels with community leaders have been created and several industry champions have been developed.
Addressed Multi-State Legislative Effort Attacking Rent-to-Own Industry
To support a client affected by broadly applicable legislative language targeting the use of a payment method not normally accepted by rent-to-own businesses, Stateside developed talking points, prepared local store managers to testify at hearings and referred a lobbyist to assist with efforts.
To assist a client in prioritizing state government relations efforts and resources, Stateside identified the most appropriate lobbyists for the client, managed all contract negotiations and ethics compliance and helped the client and lobbyists throughout the on-boarding process.
Audit of State and Local Government Relations (SLGR) Program
To address the needs of a client undergoing great change to re-evaluate its state government relations program, Stateside met with members of the client’s GR team and with key players from each of the five largest business units to learn about and understand the client’s specific needs.
